How did I fair? WELL, I wasn't the best...but I was damn close.

That conference was probably one of the best thigns for me - got me outta town for a few days, got me to see new things, compete against the best, and helped me figure out what I wanted to do. And now that I know, I got nothing to do but work towards it.

More on all this later, but from it all I can conclude a few things.

I have accomplished a lot and have a lot to be proud of but I have a long way to go. Regardless, I know why I'm in it and why I bust my ass the way that I do.

To all those that supported me and had my back from day 1 - thank you. I wouldn't be the man that I am without your help and guidance.

To all those that hated on me or gave up on me - I don't even have to say it.

I got a lot left in store and a few surprises. One of these days I'll get a camera and post pictures of how ridiuclous of a set up I have in my room (this shit should be in Cribs: The College Years) but for now, picture this. I've got my speakers set up all around my room (SURROUND SOUND BABY!!!), I've got a couch facing my monitor, and I bought cables to hook up TV to my monitor. I swear I'm gonna seduce 50 women this year in my room. I've gotta get a coupla more posters to spruce up the place, but for now I'm living larger than Fitty! (Well...not really, that fool does make 50 Mil a year)

As for everything else? Well, I'm being a big baller in school as I have been lately, with a riduclously easy class (Developmental Psych) and a pretty difficult class (Thermo). Somehow, I only see that one letter that makes me know I'ma winner!!

And now, for the biggest news...drumroll please..

I'M GOING TO CHICAGO!! THAT'S RIGHT!! I'm heading to the National Biomedical Engineering Society Conference in Chicago to present my research! WHAT NOW! All them haters tried to hate...but here I am less than 3 months after I started my newest lab position and I'm presenting at a national conference! Pretty crazy if you ask me...Only one problem - I don't get a break from school/work and the next 3 weeks of my life are going to be insane. Guess it's the price you pay to be as tight as me!

Sure sure, all this mad success is great, but there is one place in life I'm lacking. I'm not giving back to the world as I was earlier...and it's time to get back to that. These little things don't mean too much unless I spread the light with the world, and it's almost comeback time. And this time, I'm coming back stronger than ever. Besides, I do miss my doggs...

Track of the Day: Michael Jackson - Man in the Mirror
(This song was deep back in the day, as much as everybody hates on Mike, he does have a good heart)

Got a ridiculous week ahead...2 midterms and I'm moving! I HATE MOVING! Hopefully it will be an easy process - I'm doing a bit by bit by the day.

I will say this though - moving is one of those things that is both good and bad (as with anything in life). On the one hand, I'll miss the nights and the memories I've had at this place (well...maybe I don't remember too many nights..) but it's also good for me to get a fresh start. Haha, it's kinda funny I keep running in these circles of new beginnings and such. At least I know when it's time to say peace, pack my stuff, and move along...

That's what life is anyway right? Do something for a while until it's time to pick up and go. Or maybe that's just my wandering spirit talking. Guess that's why women hate on my style...I pose no sense of stability. Or maybe women don't like me cause I'm too good for em - that's mostly the case. Haha.

As I look around at my white walls and the lack of things that use to compose my room, I find myself not feeling lonely or empty. I think I learned all the things and experienced all the things I was supposed to from this place. I'm surprised I made it out alive - but I guess I say that on a day to day basis. All I have left to do now is experience what comes next...

Track of the Day: Jack Johnson - It's All Understood

Been gone for a while - mostly due to not sleeping, working my ass off, and not lifting. I finally found the answer...

Twas another Sunday night in the Leach lab cept this time around I had brought the good ol Lammy
. to come kick it with me. About halfway through my work, I realized I had to pee. All seemed normal - I mean, I pee like 20 times a day anyway cause of my small bladder...

Anywho, I let the man know I had to go, and then he said he had to go too. So we adventured around the corner to use the facilities when he said to me, "Dood, we should see who can last longer!"

Now, being the man I am, I never let a challenge down. So we assumed our positions counted down to three and then went.

2 minutes later I was pronounced the winner.

Why am I the best at peeing? (Aight, that was pretty lame...)

As the days continue to fly by and I reminisce on the days that have passed, I continue to bring things from the past into my everyday life again. Now I know you're probably wondering what the hell that means (trust me, I am to) but let me break it down for y'all.

I've always known that life is simple, REAL simple for that matter, and that to be happy there's a certain recipe that you must follow. Yet, I rarely follow that recipe and I'm rarely truly happy.

But when I do open my eyes, mind, and heart (body, mind and soul) and stay true to myself and my beliefs, the world seems all that much better. The trees seem greener, the sun shines brighter, people seem nicer, and I feel that "all good" feeling.

What's the recipe? It differs for us all so I can't tell y'all how to live your lives. I know for me its combining the triad of life - body, mind, and soul.

And following the path of compassion.

"We need such a person to inspire us with calm confidence, to tell us what to do. Who is that person? The Mahayana Buddhist sutras tell us that you are that person. If you are yourself, if you are your best, then you are that person. Me? Immature? What an absurd claim! I mean sure, I laugh at silly jokes sometimes, do silly things, and laugh at the occasional "hoe" joke..but I am NOT immature! An immature man could not do half the things I do or accomplish the things that I accomplish. Furthermore, an immature man would not be able to produce coherent sentences such as this one - A voracious reader with a passion for history and great men, he was a droll raconteur with a grandiloquent style.

But then I saw this ad in a magazine that made me laugh. I looked up the product online and I laughed even harder. Much peace is found in solitude and that is where I am content being. But regardless of that, there is a story in which I'd like to share with all...the ancient Chinese story of the Stone Cutter

There was once a stonecutter, who was dissatisfied with himself and with his position in life.

One day, he passed by a wealthy merchan't house, and through the open gateway, saw many fine posessions and important vistors. "How powerful that merchant must be!" thought the stonecutter. He became very envious, and wished that he could be like the merchant. Then he would no longer have o live the life of a mere stonecutter.

To his great surprise, he suddenly became the merchant, enjoying more luxuries and power than he had ever dreamed of, envied and detested by those less wealthy than himself. But soon a high official passed by, carried in a sedan chair, accompanied by attendeants, and escorted by soldiers beating gongs. Everyone, no matter how wealthy, had to bow low before the procession. "How powerful that official is!" he thought. "I wish that I could be a high official!"

Then he became the high official, carried everywhere in his embroidered sedan chair, feared and hated by the people al around, who had to bow down before him as he passed. It was a hot summer day, and the official felt very uncomfortable in the sticky sedan chair. He looked up at the sun. It shone proudly in the sky, unaffected by his presence. "How powerful the sun!" he thought. "I wish that I could be the sun!"

Then he became the sun, shining fierceley down on everyone, scorching the fields, cursed by the farmers and laboreres. But a huge black cloud moved between him and the earth, so that his light could no longer shine on everything below. "How powerful that storm cloud is!" he thought. "I wish that I could be a cloud!"

Then he became the cloud, flooding the fields and villages, shouted at by everyone. But soon he found that he was being pushed away by some great force, and realized that it was the wind. How powerful it is!" he thought. "I wish that I could be the wind!"

Then he became the wind, blowing tiles off the roofs of hourses, uprooting trees, hated and feared by all below him. But after a while, he ran up against something that would not move, no matter how forcefully he blew against it - a huge, towering stone. "How powerful that stone is!" he thought. I wish I could be a stone!"

Then he became the stone, more powerful than anything else on earth. But as he stood there, he heard the sound of a hammer pounding a chisel into the solid rock, and felt himself being changed. "What could be more powerful than I, the stone?" he thought. He looked down and saw far below him the figure of a stonecutter.

What does this all mean? We all play our roles in this world - appreciate who you are and what you do because that is what makes this wold the way it is...which is a good place. Understand your limitations, your strengths, and your weaknesses, live by them, and you will be happy. As I've always said - Oneness only comes from Oneness. Remember to smile because really It's all good.

And now some nerdy pics of me.

Track of the Day: U2 - One

One last thing - remember to follow your Way.

Before I hit the town tonight with the fellas I thought I'd share with all y'all some funny skits from one of the most controversial, racist, and funniest comedians of all time - Dave Chapelle.

Racial Draft

Racial Draft

I've always wanted to say this...For Shizzle.

Dave Chapelle (GTA)

Pee on you

Remix Remix Remix

Pee On You Remix

And my very favorite skit..

Dave Chapelle Samuel Jackson

It'll get ya drunk! Sigh...oh well.

Today we're going to discuss the idea in which I've been living my life in accordance with these days - discipline.

Just about everyone who knows me knows I lack discpline and self control. I'm always the one to cave in to eat the crappy food (mostly cookies), do a lotta stupid shit, or live in the extremes. To quote Obi-Wan from Episode 3 - "There are no extremes. Only the darkside lives in extremes." Well, enough of the Jediness..point is, I've always known that there are many things in life that you can and can't control - might as well take control over the ones that you have power to so you'll be happy in that regard.

One day, I decided to do just that. Where and how it started who knows (and who cares?) but the point is I'm living a good life - lifting and running daily, staying focus in an extremely boring class, being dilligent about my lab work, keeping up with my responsibilities, and going back to being a vegetarian.

Happiness comes from within...and that's where I started.

Oh yeah, and on my run to the middle-of-nowhere Davis, I saw the river flowing again...interesting...

Track of the Day: Jack Johnson - Upside Down

Today we're going to try something new...an on location post. What the hell does that mean you ask? It means I'm in my lab at 8:45 at night and I'm going to finally describe to all you loyal fans what it is I actually do in here...

In the good ol GBSF (Genome and Biomedical Sciences Facility) I do research in the Biomedical Engineering Department with Dr. JK Leach. In his lab we do tissue engineering - specifically bone and vascular engineering using stem cells. Sounds pretty cool right? Well it is!

So my "summer project" (I use qutoes because this somehow turned into a "week project") involves working on the finding the optimal environment to be used for inducing the stem cells to differentiate (change) towards bone cells in hopes of being used in implants. So, I create 2D films out of a polymer and change the properties of the films to see which better suits the cells. Once the proper experiments have been done with the 2D films, the data collected will be compared to the data from the 3D scaffolds to see which one would be better fit for the cells. Obviously, it's goign to be the 3D scaffolds...but whatever.

Sound boring? Well its not! Think about it like this...ever break a bone? Well I have. And let me tell you, that was a miserable miserable couple of months. If things work out properly in this field, we could potentially heal broken bones in a matter of weeks instead of a matter of months. I don't know about you, but that seems like a Very Good Thing to me.

Why am in my lab so late? Besides the fact that I'ma geek (which I've come terms with mind you), it's like I said - my "summer project" has turned into a "week project." The grad student that I'm working with (an MD/PhD student that's 21...makes me feel like a failure) told me this morning that it was time to get going with the cells and such.

Thus, I've got to get all my films ready in a week so I can add the cells to them once they're done growing. To make the films, I have to make microspheres (which takes 4 hours a batch) within 2 days. Then I have to take the time to do the modifications to the film which is a week's process. Something tells me it's going to be a loooooong week with no sleep...

The things I do as a scientist...

Track of the Day: Kanye West - Spaceship

After a long day of journeying yesterday, I was given this from a friend.

It meant a great deal to him - a meaning which I do not understand yet. Somehow, I ended up creating a new recipe that ended up tasting pretty good, so I decided I should share it with all of you. Try this at home kids.

How to Make Redder Burritos

1. Pull out a tomato and begin cutting.

4. Accidently miss the tomato and take a slice out of your index finger. Bleed thorougly over the tomatoes.

5. Warm up a tortilla.

6. Place beans, cheese, onions, bell peppers, and red tomatoes into the tortilla.

7. Serve warm and with plenty of water to account for the liter of blood loss.

Perhaps I'm extremely lame for finding this funny...but whatever. At least I'm enjoying it all. We decided to lift the worst muscle (fuckin legs) and so we started our routine as normal. Everything was normal...well sorta...

Before coming to the ARC, I left my roomie Mike at home with his girl...don't get me started on that one. How does this man have a girl? I've known this kid since first grade and he has barely even talked to a girl since then. TALKED TO A GIRL! And there he was on the couch with this chick...a sight that made me leave. I never thought I'd see the day come when he'd have a girl and I didnt...I swear the moons aren't aligning right in the cosmos. Anywho, he's been spending a lotta time with her lately making me think he's been gettin some...

So back to the ARC. About 15 minutes after I arrive, I see him and the girl (Hannah, by the way) and of course me and the homies have our comments. They walk off somewhere, and I see him come back BY HIMSELF to talk to us...

And that's when it all happened. It felt just like a prime moment to use a line from Harold and Kumar - I mean come on, he's the dorky Asian guy and I'm the premed chill Indian guy. Remember that scene in the elevator after Harold talks to that chick by himself?

It went down just like that. He walked up, and before he could say anything I popped the question, "Did she touch your penis?!?!?!"

As silly as that all was, in retrospect, it was funny and here's why...

1. It was done in a public setting where the majority of people in the room knew where the line came from - I had the whole room bustin up.

2. As soon as I said it, I saw a chick laughing in my peripheral vision. It was unfortunately Hannah.

3. Mike had the Asian glow without being drunk.

4. Basically, I made a complete ass outta myself in public - one of my specialities.

I guess at the end of the day, I'm glad he didn't kill me for saying that...but at least I had people laughing. Hahahaha...and the haters try to say I ain't funny..

Man..here's the worst part. I think he's still with her (1 AM) and he's got work down in the South Bay at 9 AM. How is this man getting more than I am? It's all good...I'll always have my special homegirl MJ..

Track of the Day: Akon - Mr. Lonely

Time for another book review...

The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri is now on my list of classics. I decided to pick up the book when I saw a preview for the movie which just happens to star one my favorite actors Kal Penn - the star of Harold of Kumar go to Whitecastle, Van Wilder (yeah I said it, HE was the star!), and Superman Returns (aight...he doesn't have any lines in that one but whatever...)

Either way, the book was amazing. The Namesake describes the story of the Ganguli family, straight from Calcutta, and how they learn to adopt their new lives in America. They give their first child a unique name - Gogol - one that doesn't seem to fit in to the standard American culture (hmmm...interesting...) Not give away too much, but the story follows Gogol and how lives his life and his struggle to define his identity - whether it be Indian or American - and how the ultimate choice of changing his name in early adulthood affects the rest of his life, mentally and culturally.

I'm not even going to point out the obvious reasons why I enjoyed the book, why I felt like I could relate, and why I'm probably going to enjoy the movie when it comes out later this year. Reading this book reminded me of the things of the past - old lessons and old thoughts and feelings that were once expressed through my artwork. It all showed me about the cyclical nature of life - how we end up in the same places over and over again, yet each time there is a new lesson. I know I find myself running in circles all the time, often not seeing the good in it all and not seeing why I am where I am. It's only when I stop to think and take the time to realize that happiness starts at the beginning of it all - in my name.

Track of the Day: 311 - Amber

As I kick back on a Monday night with the homies, I took some time to chill and let things be. Sure sure, sittin back and watch some TV and gettin my ass kicked in video games is always fun, but doin it with the right company and with the right amount of shitty Coors Light makes it all better. Now thats some dedication on my part - I'm kinda fuzzy, depresed that Mike is out gettin some from a chick and I'm not (really..when does that happen?) and I'm still writing for my fans! All two of them that is...

Anywho, things went just as planned today - woke up kinda late after seeing a late showing of Superman Returns, headed to the lab and made some PLG microspheres (don't worry about the scientific jargon, I'll explain one of these days) and headed the ARC as usual to get my lift on. As always, the dedicated steroid-using gym rat friends of mine were there doin their thing and were prepared to push me past my limits as soon I got there. Don't get me wrong - that's a good thing. These fools want to see me get big and get a six pack. Especially cause I said I'd get a "Thug Life" tat on my six pack if it shows up by the end of the summer (I hope I don't really do this...I don't wanna really look like 2Pac). Anyway, I started doing my chest work out by myself, but then I hopped on the bench, grabbed the homie Kris to spot me, and said fuck it. Ya, I said fuck it! I was gonna push myself harder than ever before and reach the goal of benching a plate (135 total pounds - my body weight) on each side!! And I did! THAT'S RIGHT!!

Trust me, this shit is relevant. Since all y'all faithful readers wanna know what I'm about, here it is. The point of me working out and lifting is more than just to get big, sexy, and get all the ladies. There is a zen to lifting, a meaning that I find everyday during my daily workouts. The process ends up being a thinking process mostly - I'll put up reps and a few sets here and there, but I spend the majority of my ARC timing contemplating. Throughout the repetition and constant struggles, I see the light of it all - that life in essence is the same as lifting. You push hard at times, you sit and wait at times, and then you push hard again. There are the good days and the bad days - the days where you're proud of what you put up and the days where you knew you could have done more. Yet at the end of it all, no matter what you did, it all added together to make you who you are and as long as you kept pushing, you'll see results.

Sure sure, a lot of that was that Ram bullshit, but I do have a point and it relates to everything in life. There is meaning in it all - from the trivial tasks of washing the dishes or cleaning up a room to the most "important" ones - the trials and tribulations. All of it happens for a reason and there is something to learn and to understand from it all.

Track of the Day: Eye of the Tiger - Rocky 3 Soundtrack

Oh ya, here's a dope quote I once heard a loooooong time ago.

"The only Zen you find on top of the mountain
Is the Zen you bring up there."

They say everyday is a new adventure but I never really bought it until I started taking time to THINK about my daily events. And today...today was another day that brought yet another adventure into my life.

It was a regular ol' summer Wednesday for me (ok not really, but whatever) - I had spent most of the day in the lab (big ups to Dr. Leach!) and had headed to Farmer's Market to kick it with my dogs. Out of the blue (or was it the yellow?) I received a phone call from my good friend the Hater 4 Life Ajay Kamat
. Of course, being the good FRIEND (see the common theme these days?) I am I picked up the call. Apparently his lease was ending and since he was working for the man back down in the Bay he needed me to finish cleanin up some crap in his house.

After getting EXTREMELY frustrated with my circuits homework, I took the trip over to his abandoned house at 10:30 PM. Bad idea. First, I wasn't properly dressed - I wore a cutoff, shorts, and flip flops not thinking that I had to move crap. Whatever. I had no troubles traveling in the middle of the night to a house in the middle of nowhere. Then I got to the house and realized it was dark...VERY DARK. Then I realized that no one was home...NO ONE. I almost wet my pants in fear. Luckily for me, I had a flashlight in my car so I grabbed that and proceeded into the house from hell.

I swear I felt like I was in Resident Evil - traveling through an abandoned house with zombies waiting for me around every corner. Except instead of a shotgun I was armed with...a flashlight. Yay....

I got through the moving shit pretty quickly (Thank you Jeebus!). Before departing, I took one last look around the house finding a monitor, some cleaning supplies, some garbage, and a homeless guy. Everything was norma...

"Wait a second" I said to myself. "Self, those cleaning supplies, don't belong there."

Then, the guy's arm started moving, he got up, and rushed me with a knife he pulled out of his pocket and...

Ok, Ok none of that really happened but I was still scared shitless. Abandoned house, middle of the night, BY MYSELF!! Well, at the end of the night, I had to face my fears and jump into a dark house with a mere flashlight. Amongst the darkness, there was light...or somethin like that. This all seems like some kind of life lesson on the lines of - to face your fears, you must jump in and go with the flow. Fear not for that which is not understood or explored, merely learn from it all and start to see it in a new fashion. Damn, I'm as philosophical as Aristotle!

All this adventuring kinda makes me a real man, huh? I bet this kinda shit would drive the ladies wild! Now I just gotta get one to read my blog...sigh...

Track of the Day: Linkin Park - Krwling (Reanimaion Remix)

Due to lack of creativity and depression from my engineering class, I've decided to not share anything about my life today and put in a plug for my brother and one of his blogs (Yes, plural - what a loser).

As you all know, the NBA draft is tomorrow with our home team The Golden State Warriors choosing #9 in the draft some mad crazy blogging needs to be done.

So check out the hyphiest blog out there - Golden State of mind
. Out of all the engineering classes I have take, these two are definetly the worst. Not only do I not understand a thing in the classes, but they are EXTREMELY boring. To lighten my next 6 weeks I bring...ENGINEERING HUMOR!!!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: What do engineers use for birth control?
A: Their personalities.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Three engineers are riding down the road in a car. Lets put an additive into the gas and maybe that will take care of the problem."

The second engineer is an electrical engineer. She says, "It could be something in the electrical system. Let's replace the wires and the distributor cap. Maybe that will take care of the problem."

The third engineer is a software engineer from Microsoft. He says, "It could be that we've too many windows open. Let's close all the windows, turn off the car, then restart the car and open all the windows again. Maybe that will take care of the problem."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: What is the integral of d(cabin) / cabin?
A: Houseboat. Two calcium carbonate-encapsulated avian albumen-coated protein
9.) 473.2 cm3 theobroma cacao
10.) 236.6 cm3 de-encapsulated legume meats (sieve size #10)

Directions:

To a 2-L jacketed round reactor vessel (reactor #1) with an overall heat transfer coefficient of about 100 Btu/F-ft2-hr, add ingredients one, two and three with constant agitation. In a second 2-L reactor vessel with a radial flow impeller operating at 100 rpm, add ingredients four, five, six, and seven until the mixture is homogenous. To reactor #2, add ingredient eight, followed by three equal volumes of the homogenous mixture in reactor #1. Additionally, add ingredient nine and ten slowly, with constant agitation. Care must be taken at this point in the reaction to control any temperature rise that may be the result of an exothermic reaction. Using a screw extrude attached to a #4 nodulizer, place the mixture piece-meal on a 316SS sheet (300 x 600 mm). Heat in a 460K oven for a period of time that is in agreement with Frank & Johnston's first order rate expression (see JACOS, 21, 55), or until golden brown. Once the reaction is complete, place the sheet on a 25C heat-transfer table, allowing the product to come to equilibrium.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I think I have poor humor.

Track of the Day: Gorillaz - Dirty Harry

I finally took a trip down to Santa Cruz to see my good FRIENDS Miles, Kacie, and Nick. It was good to see them again and to do a little "adventuring" again. I'll explain more about that later when I get the pics but first...

I guess Kingdom Hearts 2 made start thinking about friendship, hearts, and happiness and all that warm crap. For a while during the school year, it was my personal goal to be a "loser" and get 200 friends from UC Davis on Facebook. Ya ya, real cool. Of course I never searched for them; they all came to me. Anywho, with all the latests events in my life, KH2, and all the contemplating i've been doing, I've realized who are my true friends and what it means to be a friend. And ya gotta ask yourself, are there 215+ people that really got your back? Of course not. People are shady, greedy, and selfish. I'm not sayin I'm bitter - do your thing to be happy. But if you don't got my back when it all goes down, you ain't my friend.

I've decided to make cuts off the friends roster. It's easy to screen out the obvious ones - the ones I can't even recognize or the ones that I met once at a party or something - they're all out. The ones I don't even like - out. But how should I screen the "fake" friends?

Simple. Most of the facebook whores are always on guard for people's birthdays - they find the way to justify they're fakefriendships with people by writing a birthday post on someone's wall. Hence, I'm gonnna change my birthday on facebook and terminate anyone that posts a message on my wall, I figure if you're my REAL friend you'd know my birthday...it's Jan 1st...how can u forget?

Now if this shit isn't funny...I don't know what is. Mwahahahhaa.

Track of the Day: 50 Cent feat. In fact, after telling most people (ok fine EVERYONE I tell) that I played an action RPG that featured Donald, Goofy, King Mickey, Aladdin, Ariel, Simba, and all the other Disney characters I quickly get laughed at. Then, I show them the game...and I get laughed at even more. But as with everything else in life, Kingdom Hearts 2 cannot be judged face value.

As a game on an ex-next-gen system, KH2 boasts AMAZING graphics, voiceovers, and presentation as a whole. The game follows the Sora, the main character from the first game, as he travels with Donald Duck and Goofy in search of Sora's friends Riku and Kairi and King Mickey Mouse. Each Disney world is beautifully captured from the bazaar of Agrabah to the jungles of the Pride Lands. The game is quite reminiscent of my childhood and its really cool to travel back to all the old places that I only imagined to be in as a child. The battles, although often a simple case of button mashing of X or triangle, are all unique in their own fashions as Sora has been given the ability to perform "Reaction" commands in which Sora performs a theatrical move to damage the enemy. Once the boss has been damaged, you often find yourself saying "Cooooooool."

Although your posse is the annoying Goofy and the even more annoying Donald, KH 2 is not a child's game or a game intended for the weak hearted (Sorry sorry, bad joke). The game struggles with the philosophical concepts of good and evil, light and darkness, duality, existence, friendship, love, and the role of the heart. If you're looking for a good way to waste some time, relive your childhood, and THINK...play and FINISH KH2.

As Mickey said in the last 20 minutes of the game, "His heart has spoken. He has no choice but to follow it."

Track of the Day: "A Whole New World" - The Aladdin Soundtrack (hahahhahaha)

Today, the writers from "A word from the R Dizzle" bring you something new...something unique...A BOOK REVIEW!

Herman Hesse, a German with a brown mentality, has always been one of my favorite authors. All of his classics - Narcissus and Goldmund, Steppenwolf, The Glass Bead Game - have been beautifully written and have inspired readers from all around to ditch the confines of their contemporary societies and to venture onto their own paths through life. However, Hesse's best came in 1922 when he traveled to India (shotouts to the motherland!) and wrote Siddhartha.

Hesse's Siddartha is loosely based on the story of the Buddha, and by loosely I mean tightly, and by tightly I mean read the book. In the novel, the protagonist, Siddhartha, leaves his home to search for the answers. He begins by leading a contemplative life, then quickly rejects it as it poses nothing new for him. He then follows with a life of desires - full of money, lust, and greed. After rejecting that life, Siddhartha finds himself by a river...where his life finally begins.

To all those bored with their summer breaks, Siddhartha is a quick read (150 pages) and is really easy to follow and get into. On my third reading, I finally realized that every section contains something valuable. I once thought that the book did not become significant until the very end, but every page, every word, is placed with signficance.

The message - Follow your own path and let the light from within guide you.

Track of the day: Talvin Singh - Butterfly

For years, I have been cryng about my computer. My PowerMac G5
has one of the best processors on the market (64 bit like what!) but it mad problems when I first got it. The video card was defected - I couldn't receive a signal from the video card when I tried turning it on. Man ATI is shady...AND my damn computer came with only 256 Megs of RAM. Best processor with a shady video card and no RAM...my life sucked.

At first these little problems didn't matter, I could slip by with just using iChat, Safari, iCal, iTunes, and Word with minimal slow down. But soon I hit my 3rd year and I had to do crazy progs on MATLAB for all my BME classes (whoa...I'ma nerd) and the shit took hours to run. That is when I knew it had to be done...i had to find RAM!

I took a trip to my favorite Asian/South Asian spot - Fry's (not the wack double arches). I copped the RAM and a new video card (Damn ATI), went home and popped the shit. The video card gave a signal...YES! I clicked the "About This Mac" section...2.25 GB DDR SDRAM...YES! It was too good to be true - 10x the amount of RAM! I quickly started up MATLAB (I do mean quickly), ran a crazy script and BAM! 2 seconds later I saw my Fourier Transform graphs. Hoooooray!!

Here I am a few days later realizing my computer is dope. So to all those lovely ladies, I bring them...

Top 14 Reasons to Date an ENGINEER

14. We are trained to do it right the first time

13. We are used to all nighters

12. We are always willing to experiment

11. We know how to decrease and increase friction

10. We know all about heat transfer

9. We do it with more torque

8. We can wire your circuits

7. Free body diagrams

6. Potential for smart children

5. We know it's not the length of the vector that counts, but how you apply the force

2. "Lubrication, Friction and Wear" is actually a class

1. Well, it WAS gonna be the Eagels vs. the 49ers in hopes of a crazy upset, but I gave up on that after T.O. got a touchdown in the first minute of the game. The real upset of the week came from college football...

UC Davis vs. Stanford - the most hyped up game in Davis football history. Since moving to Division 1 in the NCAA, we (UC Davis) have been dissed, clowned, and mocked. Seeing as though the Pac - 10 Stanford Cardinal (that's right, not the damn birds, but the TREE) sucks, they were predicted to win only one game this season - their opening game against UC Davis.

I, unlike many critics, had faith in my Aggies and I decided to roll down and rep my team down in the South Bay. I rolled to the game with my bro, and the Hater 4 Life Ajay Kamat
. Thanks to the Hater's mad hookups we got into the game for free and sat on the 50 yard line on the Stanford side. Lookin around the stadium, I was suprised not see red but a dense blue and yellow area filled with the Cal Aggie Band-Uh. It was mad reppin for the cows.

Although we upset the Cardinal (whatta dumb name...) 20 to 17, I will admit we do have some shitty players. Our kicker couldn't make a field goal or extra point if his life depended on it, which it did, cause I'm sure someone's bout to jump his ass when school starts. That fool missed 3 CRUCIAL field goals and an extra point. AN EXTRA POINT?!?! Aren't these kickers trained to make at LEAST those? I mean damn...I saw the Eagles linebacker make an extra point on Sunday. Either way, the Aggies tore it up gaining double the amount of total yards as Stanford. In the last eight seconds of the game, our quarterback, Jon Grant, threw a three yard pass to WR Blaise Smith to score the game winning touchdown. It was a close game to the end (suprisingly) but somehow the Aggies pulled through. THAT'S RIGHT!!!

Many sport analysists call the UC Davis and Stanford game to be biggest college football upset in history. Sports Illustrated called UC Davis its "Team of the Week." Shotouts to my brother Shai for saying the Aggies were gonna lose, the Hater for the free tickets, the homie Vishal for rollin through, and a big shotout to all my Aggie homies out there. I can say is...FOR SHIZZLE!

Extra shotouts to the 3 Wack Women at the game
#1 - The one that asked me the day after why I wore a Stanford jersey to the game..My brother goes to Stanford!
#2 - The one that bitched me and the Hater out for sitting on the Stanford side..We sat on the 50 yard line..practically on the field!
#3 - The one that said she wasn't gonna go to the game, ended up going, wouldn't sit with me even though she had wack seats, and bounced early...Sigh, not a true Aggie!

Well, looks like I was way off. Final score 14-10 Falcons. Vick had one rushing touchdown and their backup RB T.J. Duckett rushed for a 1 yard touchdown. With two fumbles and one interception, McNabb seems to be suffering from the Madden Curse. Sigh...I thought the man could avoid it this year, but it looks like it already caught up to him with the drama with T.O. and this crappy opening game. Eagles and Falcons get a chance to replay last season's NFC Championship game tomorrow night in Monday Night Football. With the two of the best quarterbacks in the league, this game is bound to be good. Who do I think is about to win? Let's take a look at the teams individually.

Philadelphia Eagles
Looking at last season's stats, the Eagles were amazing. Donovan McNabb threw 300 completions for 3875 yards with 31 Touchdowns. Their running back, Brian Westbrook, rushed for 812 yards and had 3 touchdowns. My favorite player, the great Terrell Owens, had 1200 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns. Pretty ridiculous numbers. They have a lot of talent and their offensive is just about unstoppable. However, they do have some factors working against them in tomorrow's game. Although both players say that their conflict has been resolved, McNabb and Owens did have some preseason drama when Owens blamed their lost last year in the Super Bowl on McNabb saying he "wasn't the guy who got tired in the Super Bowl." Furthermore, Brian Westbrook isn't getting a long-term extension on his contract after signing a one-year restricted free agent offer. More importantly, McNabb has to fight off the Madden curse in this first game and hope no major injuries come out of the game. There's a lotta drama going on over there in city they call Philly.

Atlanta Falcons
With Michael Vick as their quarterback, the Atlanta Falcons are definetly one of the most entertaining teams in the NFL. Last season Vick almost rushed 1000 yards. That's almost twice the amount of yards their backup running back T.J. Duckett rushed! It's a good thing Vick can run like hell cause he really doesn't have any receivers to catch some of his crazy passes cause the Falcons cut their top receiver Peerless Price and now they've got all their money on Alge Crumpler and Dez White. Great...

My prediction? The Eagles are going to win 28-14. Although the Eagles have all that bullshit behind the scenes, they're going to win strictly based off talent. Vick is an amazing quarterback, that's undeniable, but now that Peerless Price is gone, he just doesn't have anyone to throw to. Sure, it can be argued that Price didn't do too much last year, but regardless, I highly doubt Crumpler and White can hold their own. Of course upsets can happen like today when the SF 49ers beat the St. Louis Rams 28 to 25. SF DYNASTY IS STARTING AGAIN! Watch the game tomorrow and see the Eagles fly into victory.

Football season is on it's way and the writers and editers here at "A Word from R Dizzle" (I guess that's only me) decided to bring you what I like to call "The 4 Shizzle of the Week." This week is going to be the Eagles vs. the Falcons so check the analysis tomorrow on the Monday night game.

I might be a day late but...
Anyone remember what happened on August 15, 1947? All my Indian and Pakistani brothers and sisters should recognize it - Independence Day baby!! For all you ignorant fools, on midnight August 15, 1947 India and Pakistan were formed; two countries independent of the British Empire. Their independence movement served as a catalyst for other movements across the world which eventually lead to the destruction of the British Empire.

The other day, my friends and I were discussing current events about our Indian ways, and my friend called me a FOB. Can you believe that? I GOT CALLED A FOB! To a man like me, that's a compliment! To all you white fools out there, a FOB is a man or a woman that is "fresh off the boat" meaning he or she still carries the ways of the motherland, but to an extreme degree. Symptoms of "FOBbin" for Indians include a thick accent, eating with your hands, showering with a bucket, and extreme B.O.

So I began thinking...could I be a FOB? Well today I bring you the top 9 reasons (in no particular order) why Rameshwar Rao is a FOB.

1. My major is Biomedical Engineering (I'm gonna be a doctor AND an engineer!)

2. When I answer my phone, I often say, "Vhat is up doggy friend?"

3. Everytime I go out to party, I leave an away message saying, "Where's the party, yar?"

4. Kal Penn is my idol.

5. I sang "Kal Ho Naa Ho" at a party with a friend.

6. I've used the math pickup line. ("Hey baby, I'm good at mathematics. So why don't we add you and me, subtract your clothes, divide your legs, and multiply!")

7. There's nothing better than coming home to drink a Thumbs Up or a Limca.

8. I stole some samosas from a party two weeks ago.

9. Everytime I see a friend, I say "What's Up" and give him a hand shake with a finger snap at the end.

What do all you guys? Is the R Dizzle a FOB or just an ABCD (American Born Confused Desi)? Let me know!

August 9, 2005. A day that will be remembered. Well, not really, but it marks the day of the release of the next game in the EA Sports dynasty, Madden 2006. Madden, the longest series of football games, has always been crowned the cream of the crop since 1989 with their release of John Madden Football for the PC. Sixteen years later, they give us Madden 06. Scoring a mere 8.8 from IGN, it was said to be "great but unable to outdo itself." I personally haven't been able to play it yet; I haven't found a copy on the internet to download yet, but I'm sure it's the same Madden greatness.

This year, the cover dons Donovan McNabb, one of the greatest quarterbacks in the league (Screw all of you that are gonna say Tom Brady is better). But being on the cover of a Madden game seems to be curse rather than a gift. It all started 5 years ago...

Madden 2001 cover: Eddie George, Titans RB

Before the cover: Eddie George and the Titans reached the Superbowl in 2000. Let's hope the curse ends this year and we see McNabb, Owens, and the Eagles go to the Superbowl for a win. Watch Game 1, Falcons vs. Eagles Monday night 9/12/2005. I got my money on the Eagles. Today, I present to you...

The Sleeping Beauty will make you JUMP JUMP!

As you all know, the NIH (National Institutes of Health)
funds just about every bio-related research in America. They're the ones that pay the bills in the lab I work in, so every now and then I like to check up on what's going on in the science realm. In the latest news, the University of Minnesota Cancer Center and the National Cancer Institute (NCI) has found a new way to identify cancer causing genes by using modified transposons. Code named Sleeping Beauty, these modified transposons, or jumping genes, are created from non-functioning jumping genes from fish. After modification, they are inserted into mouse cells and their activity is monitored. Sleeping Beauty genes can insert themselves within cancer-causing genes, enabling them or disabling them. By following the many pathways of these transposons, cancer-inducing genes can be targeted and more drugs can be developed. Check out the article
for further information.

On a side note, guess what got EXTRA CENSORED today? That's right, one of the highest selling and greatest PS2 games - Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
. Turns out thuggin in the wannabe LA was a little much for Hilary Clinton and it has been changed from a rating of "Mature" to "Adults Only." Not only will this change in rating knock on sells (because kids can't come within a mile of the box) but it has been taken off the shelves of stores such as Wal-Mart, BEST BUY, and TARGET! Now I'm not gonna pull some racial shit, but just one question - why was San Andreas (the third of the GTAs released on this generation of consoles) changed to "Adult Only" and not GTA III
or GTA: Vice City
? Perhaps the black main character was a little too much to handle...but I'll let you guys interpret that however you want. Check out more about it here
.

On another side note, comments are always appreciated. Keep dropping those! If you add somethin anonymously, drop your name at the end of it so I can know who's saying what. So to the fly honey that said I rocked her world...gimme a holla baby! Cause if you give me yo #...I'LL CALL!

That Lil Furry Guy

So I was checkin the news on CNN. com today (yes, I do try to stay edumicated on current issues) and I saw this
in the headlines today. It reminded me of a fated day long ago....

On March 5, 2001 (I was 16) I found myself going to Gamestop in the Stoneridge Mall, anticipating the release of one Nintendo 64's greatest games - Conker's Bad Fur Day
. Scoring a high 9.9, I knew it was going to be good. From everything from a singing poo to drunken fights with enemies to spinoffs of great movies such as The Matrix and Saving Private Ryan, the game guaranteed nothing but fun. So I waited in line with my preorder slip in hand drooling over the $60 game that was about to be in my posession. As soon as I got to the front of the line, I presented my slip to the cashier and I heard the question that almost made me cry - "Can I see some ID?" That was the first time, and only time I have EVER gotten carded for a video game. I showed him my license, which claimed I was 16, and he refused to sell me the game. It appears that the little letter "M" on the box prohibited me, a 16 year old, to purchase the game. According to the ESRB, the "M" representing "For Mature Audiences Only" have "content suitable for persons ages 17 and older." Moral of the story - since I was A YEAR OFF the rating, I could not buy a game that contained violence and strong language.

Well, it all worked out cause I paid some 20 year old to buy me the game anyway. Think it all worked out? It didn't. Two years later, in my Senior year in highschool, I turned on the TV one day and I saw a scene from Conker's Bad Fur Day. Except this time, it was real. The footage of the bombings in the war with Iraq looked just like the Saving Private Ryan scenes presented in Conker. So not only am I thinking, "Damn Bush is an idiot," I'm also thinking, "Seven-year old kids are watching this shit, and it's no different than the game I tried to buy two years ago as a 16 year old." My point is this - I agree with censorship to a degree, but if the people high up are going to be regulated on video games like Grand Theft Auto, Splinter Cell, and HALO (which is rated Mature), then they have to start regulating Fox, CBS, and CNN.

Inspired by my brother Shai
and his boy DJ Fuzzy Logic
, I bring "A Word from the R Dizzle," the flyest blog on the internet.
